New venue same Manaiakalani Message ...

Thank you Tonui Callab ( renamed Mind Lab) for hosting us and opening our minds to what is out there and what the future looks like for our tamariki. Wow!

3D Printers enabling mind blowing inventions to help those needing artificial limbs ... our own Liam Malore kiwi sprinter using his running blades to give him a gold medal winning experience.  No doubt values of resilience, perseverance and courage going along way to help too!

Partnership between whanau and school is something NZ schools have always  worked to achieve. Having the learning visible has shifted from opening your childs desk to check up (often finding that uneaten lunch instead!) to maybe a class or personal blog

Coding , Robotics, Virtual Reality ... Computational Thinking we have experienced it all today. For my learners back in Room 4 there were so many take away things . My class would love the challenges and the exciting hands on experiences. Being able to challenge them to think, create and share in different ways . See below for different!

Day 4 Devices and Kawa of care

Laptops , chromebooks, ipads finding our way around devices and learning first hand how our students feel. The Manaiakalani Kawa of Care - a set of values that can be embraced with all learning and life skills.

Hapara in the classroom - an eye on the learning and a way of  leading the learner and keeping them on the task!
Learnt about screencastify an amatuer  version below sorry about background noise but also recorded someone else's words of wisdom a bonus!

Hang out with our fellow DFI  learners in Auckland who completed their exam today . Thank you Mary for your words of  encouragement before a well deserved celebration.

The DFI  journey continues and is definitely an example of lifelong learning. Thank you for this opportunity!

Day 3 - It won't happen overnight but it will happen!

Day 3.... Manaiakalani - Hook from heaven, starting to hook me in...

 Karakia - Amene

Create - I was given a Sylvia Ashton Warner book to read before I embarked on my teaching career. Nice to be be taken back there at the start of the day and know creative learning still so important today in NZ.

Enjoyed having Dorothy join our group via Hang Out (hanging out has a whole new meaning for me!) It all made a lot of sense on this part of the Manaiakalani journey.

Multi Model what does this mean ? Know now! With some serious one to one assistance created a new site from scratch (it's all about the Bees) I will be sharing this in Room 4  hope they're impressed ha or should I say  hooked into the learning!

Collaborate  today's  theme and can honestly say collaboration has lead me to finish this Friday feeling positive

Day 2 of DFI

We started the day with a karakia (Amene) Focus on Learn Create Share Learn Ako is key today - " Access and engage existing knowledge " I learned Manaiakalani is there to enhance good teaching practise. WorkFlow is the theme of the day something to help with this is great. Learning to organise my laptop with bookmarks, tabs is tiding my cluttered mind and saving time ! Very grateful for some extra help and support from colleagues sitting by me around the big table at Riverdale. The afternoon was off to "Hang Out" Looking at Blogs from Summer Learning Journal an initiative to help with the slump in learning over the summer holidays recommend having a look at this Wow! Could see the benefits of having a class blog to share our learning. At days end am feeling more positive about this learning journey. I can see how it can help improve my teaching capabilities and help students learning.

Farewell DFI Fridays!

Last day of DFI  - back  to the real world of teaching on Fridays . Will miss hanging out with  amazing people and being treated to an  endl...
